UC Davis Health utilizes sustainability performance assessments as a framework to integrate sustainability into its operations and to participate in propelling the health industry toward progress in environmental health and justice on a global scale.

Sustainability goals

  • Logo for Practice Greenhealth.
    All health locations will achieve Practice Greenhealth’s award “Greenhealth Partner for Change.”
     
  • Waste Reduction
    • By 2025: Achieve a target of 25lbs of solid waste as defined by Practice Greenhealth per Adjusted Patient Day.
    • By 2030: Strive for 20lbs of solid waste per Adjusted Patient Day. (For the definition of Adjusted Patient Day see UC Sustainable Practices Policy, p. 2)
  • Water Reduction
    • By 2020: Reduce growth-adjusted potable water consumption by 20% compared to baseline year (three-year average of Fiscal Years 2005/06, 2006/07, and 2007/08).
    • By 2025: Reduce growth-adjusted potable water consumption by 36% compared to baseline year (three-year average of Fiscal Years 2005/06, 2006/07, and 2007/08).
  • Acute care/hospital facilities and medical office buildings in health locations shall be designed, constructed and commissioned, or renovated as outlined in Section A of the UC Sustainable Practices Policy.
  • By 2030:  Strive to procure 30% sustainable food products as defined by Practice Greenhealth and outlined in Section H of the UC Sustainable Practices Policy.

Progress Toward Goals

  • In 2020, UC Davis Health achieved the Practice Greenhealth Emerald Award, Greening the OR Recognition, and received the Circle of Excellence on Food and the Circle of Excellence in Green Building.
  • In 2020, UC Davis Health procured 42.3% sustainable food products.
