Since 2020, UC Davis Sustainability and UC Global Affairs have partnered together to hold an annual World Climate Simulation—a role-playing exercise of the UN climate change negotiations.
Over the course of two days, participants will learn about the dynamics behind climate change and what governments need to do to address this urgent issue.
Participants will choose a country to represent during the negotiations and become active participants in the decision making process. They will see how their group decisions on emission reduction rates, the timing of reductions, and deforestation and afforestation rates impact the future of their world through the use of an interactive computer model called C-ROADS.
The goal of the simulation is to successfully negotiate government proposals among developed and developing countries to be collectively ambitious enough to limit global warming below 2°C, with an effort toward 1.5°C.
